How to solve VPN connection issues

VPN creates an encrypted connection between your computer and VPN server and passes all network activity through the protected tunnel. So no one can see what you are up to, and it will prevent anyone from eavesdropping on your online activity while you are connected to Wi-Fi networks. There are several other reasons why you should use VPN services: to change your IP address to unblock websites, videos and games.

VPN connection issues

A good VPN service should be easy enough to use, but even that you may meet different problems when using VPN. If you have VPN connection issues, read on this handy checklist, it can solve most VPN connection problems.


  • Connect to different VPN servers


Geo-specific problems or bad routing may cause this problem. Coonnect to another server. If you want connect to a specific country, then try the other servers of this country.


  • Change the VPN protocols


Try all the VPN protocols provided by the VPN providers. Residents in Turkey, China and Thailand subjected to the increasing Internet censorship over the past years. VPN is the most used way to protect privacy and get Internet freedom. But not all protocols are available in these countries. PPTP is blocked in China on September and October this year.

  • Check if your account reaches the limitation of online devices

Some VPNs don't allow users setup VPN on routers, and have online connection limit, not allow users login their account on different devices at a time. You have to check if your account has already been login on other devices.

  • Check if the IP address is correct

Some prefer to manually setup VPN, need to check if the server's IP address you set is correct.

  • Close the anti-virus software and firewall

Close firewall, antivirus or other third party security applications running in the background. The easiest way to determine if a certain application might be responsible for your VPN connection issues is to simply deactivate it temporarily, and test it again to see if the problem remains.

  • Uninstall other VPN or proxy applications

Different VPNs have different policies and agreements. Make sure you don't have two different VPNs with two different policies and agreements just because you want to secure your phone along with your laptop. Uninstall the other VPNs or proxy and connect again.

  • Restart your router and VPN program

Restart your router, network and VPN program. If it still doesn't work, uninstall the VPN software, and then reinstall.

  • Change your DNS settings

Change your DNS settings manually to OpenDNS or GoogleDNS. Open control panel – network & internet - Network and Sharing Center - Change Adapter Settings - local network - property - IPV4. Then change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.

  • Contact your ISP

Check if your network is normal. Maybe your Network provider blocks VPN, or blocks PPTP and L2TP ports.

  1. I facing an issue with my Samsung8 , i configured PPTP VPN, Using wifi it is working, through mobile data its blocking. One more thing using this same provider i can able to connect PPTP in another mobile. So provider allows PPTP in their network. I assuming something blocking in Samsung Mobile itself.
